Nikki Silvestri, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
As the Co-Founder of Live Real and former Executive Director of People's Grocery and Green for All, Nikki has built and strengthened social equity for underrepresented populations in food systems, social services, public health, climate solutions, and economic development. A nationally recognized thought leader, her many honors include being named one of The Root's 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2014.
An accomplished thought leader, Nikki’s public speaking and media appearances have brought messages of personal and professional balance, sustainable development, and wealth creation for marginalized communities to a wide diversity of audiences. Equally comfortable in dialogue with a small class, a full auditorium, or a stadium of 10,000 (which she had the honor of speaking to in Italy, at the Terra Madre bi-annual conference), she’s known for her engaging and inspiring style. Her television appearances include All In with Chris Hayes and the Melissa Harris Perry Show on MSNBC, and her writing has been featured on BET.com, the Huffington Post, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
Nikki sits on the Board of Directors of Food First, an international Food Policy think tank, and is a Business Alliance of Living Economies (BALLE) Fellow. She began her work in social change through the foster care system in Southern California, where she directed Foster Youth Empowerment Workshops. She has a master's degree in African American Studies from UCLA, and is originally from Los Angeles. She currently lives in Oakland with her husband, Co-Founder of Silvestri Strategies Galen Silvestri.
